Illinois HB1727 suspends pension benefits for retirees indicted or charged with a felony related to their service.
HB1727 amends the Illinois Pension Code to suspend benefit or annuity payments for members or participants in a retirement system or pension fund if indicted or charged with a felony related to their service. If the member or participant is not convicted, payments resume and the retirement system or pension fund pays the suspended amount with interest. If convicted, the suspended payments are not paid, but the member or participant is entitled to a refund of contributions. The State Mandates Act is also amended to require implementation without reimbursement.
