Illinois HB1726 amends the Property Tax Code to modify the process for paying property taxes under protest.

HB1726 amends the Property Tax Code to change the rules for paying property taxes under protest. It specifies that if a taxpayer objects to a property tax for any reason other than exemption, they must pay the full tax amount within 60 days from the first penalty date of the final installment. The bill also mandates that the Department of Revenue create standard forms and notices for taxpayers to use when making a payment under protest. Effective immediately upon becoming law.
