HB1714

PROBATE-GUARDIANS

Introduced·1/24/25
Introduced Text

Amends guardianship provisions for persons with disabilities in Illinois.

The bill amends the Probate Act of 1975 to revise guardianship provisions for persons with disabilities. It specifies that a person or entity can act as a guardian if the court finds them capable of providing suitable guardianship. The court must consider the proposed guardian's history of cooperation and working together. The court cannot appoint a public guardian or the Office of State Guardian as a co-guardian. The court may appoint separate individuals or entities to act as guardians of the person and the estate if it is in the best interests of the person with a disability.
