HB1655 amends sheriff qualifications in Illinois, requiring training certificates for large counties.

HB1655 amends the Counties Code to change sheriff qualifications. In counties with a population of 3,000,000 or more, a person must have a certificate of successful completion of the County Correctional Training Course, as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board, or a substantially similar training program of another state or the federal government. This requirement does not apply to sheriffs currently serving on the effective date of this amendatory Act.
