HB1620 amends the Illinois Pension Code to provide occupational disease disability pensions for active firefighters with 5 or more years of service who are unable to perform their duties due to heart disease, stroke, tuberculosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or lung or respiratory tract diseases resulting from their service. The pension is payable during the period of disability and is equal to 65% of the firefighter's salary or the retirement pension they would be eligible for.
