Illinois HB1554 amends the Election Code by prohibiting political committees from using funds for legal defenses in criminal cases or civil cases involving misconduct, sexual harassment, or discrimination claims against public officials. The bill also mandates that contributions used in violation of the Code be returned to the contributor or paid to the State if the contributor cannot be identified or reimbursed. These contributions must be reported in the committee's quarterly report to the State Board of Elections.
