HB1546

POWERING IL BY COAL

Introduced·1/21/25
Introduced Text

Extends deadlines for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from certain Illinois power plants.

The bill amends the Environmental Protection Act to extend deadlines for reducing carbon dioxide equivalent and copollutant emissions from electric generating units and large greenhouse gas-emitting units. These units must reduce emissions to zero or by at least 50% from existing levels by various dates, depending on their fuel type and location. The bill also requires the Environmental Protection Agency, Illinois Power Agency, and Illinois Commerce Commission to prepare a report every five years examining the state's progress toward renewable energy goals and electric resource adequacy.
