Illinois HB1386 amends the Illinois Income Tax Act to offer tax credits for volunteer emergency workers. For taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2026, and before January 1, 2029, the credit amount is $1,000 per eligible individual, up from $500. Eligible individuals must volunteer for at least nine months, earn no more than $5,000 in compensation, and be registered with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The annual cap on credits is increased to $6,000,000. The bill takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
