Illinois HB1369 introduces a tax credit for family caregivers of eligible family members.

HB1369, known as the Caring for Caregivers Act, establishes a tax credit for Illinois residents who care for eligible family members. Eligible family members must be at least 60 years old, reside in a private home, and require assistance with at least two activities of daily living. Family caregivers can claim a credit equal to 50% of eligible expenditures, up to $2,000 per year, or $3,000 if the eligible family member is a veteran. The credit is subject to income limits and cannot reduce the taxpayer's liability below zero.
