Illinois HB1353 amends the Volunteer Emergency Worker Job Protection Act to enhance protections for volunteer emergency workers.

Illinois HB1353 amends the Volunteer Emergency Worker Job Protection Act to prohibit employers from terminating or penalizing volunteer emergency workers for being absent or late due to emergency response or training. Employers may not require these workers to use vacation or compensatory time for such activities. The Act also allows employers to charge against regular pay any time lost due to emergency response or training. Volunteer emergency workers must notify their employers of potential absences or lateness. The Act does not apply to municipalities with a population of 15,000 or more.
