Illinois HB1346 establishes a grant program to fund school resource officers.
HB1346 creates the School Resource Officer Grant Program, administered by the State Board of Education. This program provides funding for salaries and other costs associated with hiring active or retired law enforcement officers as school resource officers. Eligible schools or districts that hire such officers can be reimbursed through this grant program. The bill also mandates that law enforcement agencies providing these officers should seek federal Community Oriented Policing Services grant funding to help cover related costs.
