Introduced·1/13/25
Introduced Text

Illinois HB1275 mandates free transportation for pupils in certain school districts.

HB1275 requires school boards in specific school districts to provide free transportation for pupils residing more than 1/2 mile from their assigned school if the school is within or adjacent to an R3 zone and outside a county with over 3 million residents. The bill also allows for transportation if walking poses a serious safety hazard due to traffic, rail crossings, or criminal activity. The school board must review conditions annually. The State Superintendent of Education can request verification from the Illinois Department of Transportation or local law enforcement.
