Illinois HB1269 amends the School Code to require school districts to obtain written parental or guardian consent before administering self-report surveys to students under 18 that may reveal personal, protected information. Parents or guardians must be given the opportunity to review the survey questions electronically or in person. Refusal to consent cannot result in disciplinary action, academic penalty, suspension, expulsion, or any other sanction against the student. The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
