Illinois HB1250 amends the School Code to allow school boards to provide free transportation for pupils living within one and a half miles of school.

Illinois HB1250 amends the School Code to allow school boards to provide free transportation for pupils living within one and a half miles of school if walking poses a safety hazard due to vehicular traffic, rail crossings, or criminal activity. The Department of Transportation and the State Board of Education must review and approve or disapprove the school board's findings within 30 days. The school board must annually review the conditions and determine if the hazardous conditions remain unchanged.
