Illinois HB1149 allows higher education institutions to award academic credit for firefighting training.

Illinois HB1149, known as the Educational Credit for Firefighting Experience Act, requires institutions of higher education to develop policies for awarding academic credit to students who have completed firefighting training. These institutions must submit their policies to the Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Community College Board by June 30, 2027, and annually thereafter. The Board of Higher Education is mandated to collect data on firefighter students to assess enrollment and completion outcomes.
