Illinois HB1063 establishes the Illinois Works Apprenticeship Initiative to increase apprenticeship opportunities in public works projects.

HB1063 amends the Illinois Works Jobs Program Act to establish the Illinois Works Apprenticeship Initiative, administered by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. The initiative mandates that apprentices perform a certain percentage of labor hours on public works projects estimated to cost $500,000 or more. For projects starting before January 1, 2024, at least 25% of labor hours must be performed by apprentices, with at least 25% of those hours coming from graduates of specified preapprenticeship programs.
