HB1018 amends the Illinois Insurance Code to regulate pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). It prohibits PBMs from steering patients to specific pharmacies, including those in which the PBM has an ownership interest. The bill also prohibits PBMs from retaliating against pharmacists or pharmacies for disclosing information that may indicate a violation of law. Additionally, it mandates that PBMs update maximum allowable cost pricing information regularly and maintain a process to adjust drug prices based on pricing data. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2025.
