Illinois HB0049 amends the Counties Code to allow sheriffs to authorize auxiliary deputies to wear plain clothes during disasters or civil disorder events, provided they carry proper identification. Auxiliary deputies are not to supplement regular county police or deputies in their normal duties. They may be assigned to aid or direct traffic, assist in controlling natural or human disasters, and receive compensation set by the County Board. They must undergo training and meet the same firearm training requirements as peace officers.
