Adds to existing law to establish provisions regarding hearing loss screening.

Complete·3/31/26

Idaho S1294 mandates hearing loss screening for all infants and newborns before discharge from medical facilities.

Idaho S1294 amends existing law to require hearing loss screening for all infants and newborns before discharge from hospitals, health care facilities, or birthing facilities. For home births, the birthing attendant must ensure screening within 21 days. The screening must use approved physiologic methods and results must be reported to the Idaho Educational Services for the Deaf and Blind within seven days. The law is contingent on continued federal funding for this purpose.
