Idaho H0490 amends reckless driving laws, defining new penalties and clarifying inattentive driving.

Idaho H0490 revises the definition of reckless driving under Idaho Code, specifying new penalties for first-time offenders and introducing a new category for inattentive driving. First-time offenders face up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. Inattentive driving, a lesser offense, carries a maximum one-year jail sentence, a $2,000 fine, or both. The law also mandates license suspension for those convicted of inattentive driving. The changes take effect July 1, 2026.
