Establishes a three-year pilot program for healthy school meals in Hawaii high schools.
The bill establishes a three-year pilot program to offer healthy meal options in Hawaii high schools. These meals will consist of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices, and non-dairy beverages. Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, at least one high school in each school complex area must provide these meals at least once every other week. For the 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 school years, the requirement increases to at least once a week. The Department of Education will establish guidelines for nutritional standards, menu planning, and staffing.
