Hawaii SB719, known as the Healthy Ohana Act of 2025, introduces a fee on sugar-sweetened beverages to discourage consumption and generate revenue for health programs. The fee, set at two cents per fluid ounce, applies to distributors and retailers of sugar-sweetened beverages, syrups, and powders. Exemptions include beverages sold for resale outside the state and certain products like infant formula and dietary aids. The revenue will be deposited into the Healthy Ohana Special Fund, used for chronic disease prevention programs and the Healthy Ohana Trust Fund.
