Hawaii SB5 outlines procedures for filling legislative vacancies in the state senate and house of representatives.

Hawaii SB5 amends the state's legislative vacancy procedures. If a vacancy in the state senate occurs, the governor must appoint someone within sixty days from the vacancy's first day. The appointee must be from a list of three candidates submitted by the same political party as the prior incumbent. The appointee must also be a resident of the same senate district as the prior incumbent and must have been a member of the political party for at least six months before the appointment.
