Establishes the office of the state fire marshal within the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.

Hawaii SB436 amends Section 132-16.5 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes to establish the office of the state fire marshal within the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations. The office is headed by a state fire marshal appointed by the state fire council for a five-year term, with a limit of three terms. The appointment process is exempt from certain state chapters and does not require senate approval. In case of a vacancy, the state fire council must promptly appoint a new state fire marshal. The state fire marshal is authorized to hire necessary staff.
