The bill creates a special fund within the state treasury for universal school meals, to be administered by the department. It will be funded by Medicaid reimbursements and grants. The fund will be used to cover the costs of universal school meals. The bill also amends the Hawaii Revised Statutes to specify that all moneys for public school cafeterias, except for Medicaid reimbursements, will be deposited into this fund. This Act will take effect on July 1, 2026.
