Medical Debt Protection and Patient Dignity Act prohibits aggressive medical debt collection practices.
The Medical Debt Protection and Patient Dignity Act bans health care providers and medical creditors from filing lawsuits, seizing assets, garnishing wages, or placing liens on homes for medical debt from very low-income patients. It also prohibits the sale of medical debt to third parties. Health care providers with annual gross revenues over $20 million must offer non-emergency medically necessary care regardless of a patient's ability to pay or payment history.
