Hawaii SB198 amends state law to prevent the issuance of leases or lease extensions for public lands to the U.S. Department of Defense or any military branch if they are not following environmental maintenance or remediation requirements. The bill directs the Board of Land and Natural Resources to request compliance from the U.S. Department of Defense, including remediation of leased lands before the end of the lease term. The Board must report to the legislature on the status of these requests and negotiations. The Act does not affect existing rights, penalties, or proceedings.
