Allows certain retirees to return to work without re-enrolling in the state retirement system.

This bill amends Hawaii's retirement system to allow certain retirees to return to work without re-enrolling and without losing benefits. Specifically, retirees can return to work in labor shortage positions in the Department of the Attorney General or Department of Law Enforcement, as teachers or administrators in teacher shortage areas, or as mentors for new classroom teachers. The bill also requires employers to contribute to the pension fund to cover unfunded liabilities. The changes take effect on July 1, 2025.
