The bill modifies the responsibilities of the Department of Health concerning patients, the County of Kalawao, and the Kalaupapa Settlement. It establishes the Kalaupapa State Historical Area to preserve the historical, cultural, and environmental significance of the Kalaupapa Settlement. The county of Kalawao will cease to be a separate county and become part of the county of Maui. The Department of Health will no longer provide patient care at Kalaupapa after the last patient resident passes.
