The bill establishes a temporary public school realignment and closure commission to review Hawaii's public school facilities and recommend a comprehensive package of consolidations, realignments, or closures. The commission will develop objective criteria for evaluating facilities, conduct a statewide review, and submit a final report to the legislature and governor by October 1, 2027. The legislature will vote on the report in 2028, and if approved, the board of education and department of education must implement the recommendations by July 1, 2028.
