Extends county surcharge on state general excise taxes for public transportation and housing infrastructure costs.
This bill amends Hawaii Revised Statutes to extend the county surcharge on state general excise taxes. Counties with a population of 500,000 or less can use the surcharge revenues for public transportation systems, including roadways, buses, trains, ferries, pedestrian paths, and bicycle paths. Counties can also use the revenues for expenses in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and housing infrastructure costs. The surcharge can be extended until December 31, 2045, and must be adopted by ordinance after a public hearing.
