Hawaii HB1971 amends state statutes to require coverage for biomarker testing in individual and group health insurance policies and hospital or medical service plan contracts issued or renewed after January 1, 2027. Biomarker testing, which includes the analysis of a patient's tissue, blood, or other biospecimen for the presence of a biomarker, is covered for diagnosis, treatment, appropriate management, or ongoing monitoring of a disease or condition. The coverage must limit disruptions in care and be supported by medical and scientific evidence.
