Allows non-Oahu legislators a housing allowance during session.
This bill amends Hawaii law to provide a basic housing allowance for legislators residing on islands other than Oahu during legislative sessions. The allowance is set at a rate equal to, but not exceeding, the O-9 per diem rate for lodging established by the Defense Travel Management Office. The allowance is subject to approval by the president of the senate or speaker of the house of representatives. The allowance covers personal expenses but not travel expenses. The bill also repeals certain statutory material and appropriates funds for fiscal years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027.
