Florida S1494 requires major medical and similar comprehensive health insurance policies to provide annual screening mammograms for women aged 40 and older, and supplemental breast cancer screenings for those at increased risk. Increased risk is defined by genetic predisposition, lifetime risk, prior thoracic radiation, age, or dense breast tissue. The bill also mandates coverage for supplemental screenings for women with dense breast tissue. Insurers must offer this coverage at an additional premium, exempt from deductibles and coinsurance.
