Co-Location Energy Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to permit renewable energy projects on existing federal leased areas.
The Co-Location Energy Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to permit the construction and operation of systems or facilities for solar or wind energy production on existing federal leased areas. The Secretary may also authorize evaluations for renewable energy development on these areas, but only with the consent of the leaseholder. The Act requires the Secretary to determine if these actions are categorically excluded from environmental review under the National Environmental Policy Act. The Secretary must issue a rule to implement these provisions.
