S.782

Directs the Secretary of Agriculture to revise regulations to exempt certain small meat packers from a prohibition.

The Expanding Local Meat Processing Act of 2025 directs the Secretary of Agriculture to amend regulations to exempt small meat packers from a prohibition. Specifically, packers with a slaughter capacity of less than 2,000 cattle or sheep per day, or 700,000 per year, and less than 10,000 hogs per day, or 3,000,000 per year, are exempt. The bill also requires market agencies with an interest in these packers to disclose the relationship on livestock sale accounts. This exemption aims to support smaller meat processors while maintaining protections for producers and market integrity.
