The Citizenship for International Adoptees Act of 2026 amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to provide automatic U.S. citizenship to individuals adopted by U.S. citizens and admitted to the U.S. for adoption before turning 18. The individual must not have previously acquired U.S. citizenship and must demonstrate a commitment to the U.S. by being physically present in the country on the enactment date. The Secretary of Homeland Security will issue a certificate of citizenship upon application.
