The Wildfire Emissions Prevention Act of 2026 amends the Clean Air Act to modify how air quality monitoring is handled with respect to prescribed fires. It reduces the burden and cost for states to demonstrate an exceptional event, clarifies the eligibility of prescribed fires as exceptional events, and establishes a procedure for reviewing state petitions. The act also creates the Smoke Ready Communities Program, which provides grants to eligible entities for assessing, preventing, controlling, or abating wildfire smoke hazards in community buildings, including schools.
