Wildfire Smoke Emergency Declaration Act of 2026 allows the President to declare a smoke emergency in states affected by wildland fire smoke.

The Wildfire Smoke Emergency Declaration Act of 2026 empowers the President to declare a smoke emergency in states experiencing or anticipating a significant decrease in air quality due to wildland fire smoke. Governors or appropriate state agencies can request such a declaration. If declared, the President can provide assistance to affected states and local communities through FEMA and other federal agencies, including grants, equipment, supplies, and resources for establishing smoke shelters, air purifiers, and additional air monitoring sites.
