The Maritime Cybersecurity Act requires the Secretary of the department in which the Coast Guard is operating to assess cybersecurity risks of certain software and hardware used in maritime facilities. Owners or operators of these facilities must report annually on the software and hardware they use, especially if it is manufactured by a foreign entity of concern. The Secretary may issue waivers if the risk to national security is low compared to the benefit to commerce. The Act also mandates annual reports to Congress on cybersecurity risks and mitigation actions.
