S.4272

Home Team Act of 2026

Introduced·3/26/26

Home Team Act of 2026 aims to keep professional sports franchises in their home communities.

The Home Team Act of 2026 seeks to prevent professional sports franchises from relocating or being eliminated without offering local entities a fair opportunity to purchase. The bill prohibits leagues from banning government or public ownership of franchises and mandates that owners offer the franchise for purchase to local government entities, home community cooperatives, nonprofit organizations, and private entities. The Secretary of the Treasury will establish a team of appraisers to determine fair market value, considering any government payments for stadium construction.
