S.4252

WIPP Economic Assistance Assurance Act of 2026

Introduced·3/26/26

Extends economic assistance payments under the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act until the closure of the facility.

The WIPP Economic Assistance Assurance Act of 2026 amends the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant Land Withdrawal Act to ensure that economic assistance payments continue until the closure of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. These payments, which were initially authorized for 14 fiscal years, will now extend through the fiscal year during which transuranic waste shipments to or from the facility have been terminated. This change aims to provide ongoing support to the local economy affected by the operations and eventual closure of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.
