The PRIME Meat Processing in Indian Country Act amends the Federal Meat Inspection Act to authorize Indian Tribes and Tribal organizations to conduct meat inspections under self-determination contracts with the Secretary of Agriculture. These inspections must meet federal standards for antemortem and postmortem inspection, reinspection, sanitation, humane handling, recordkeeping, and enforcement. Tribal inspectors must not be employed by animal food manufacturers or hold ownership interests in such entities. The Secretary retains oversight authority, including recall, review, and audit.
