Federal crime to assault or intimidate passenger train crew members.

The Passenger Rail Crew Protection Act makes it a federal crime to assault or intimidate a passenger train crew member. This includes attempting or conspiring to do so. Penalties include fines, imprisonment, or both. A dangerous weapon used in the assault or intimidation can result in up to 20 years in prison. The act defines crew members as engineers, conductors, onboard personnel, and employees performing safety-sensitive functions.
