The DATA Act of 2026 exempts consumer-regulated electric utilities from federal regulation.

The Decentralized Access to Technology Alternatives Act of 2026, or DATA Act of 2026, amends the Federal Power Act to exempt consumer-regulated electric utilities from federal regulation. These utilities, established after the act's enactment and serving new electric loads, are exempt from rate regulation, corporate oversight, transmission and distribution regulation, reliability standards, interconnection requirements, and regional transmission planning.
