The GUARD Act of 2025 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to establish one or more National Security and Defense Artificial Intelligence Institutes at eligible U.S. institutions of higher education or senior military colleges. These Institutes will focus on artificial intelligence research with national security implications, develop testbeds, and provide data sets and computing resources. They will also support interdisciplinary research, workforce development, and innovation ecosystems. Financial assistance is awarded competitively and can be renewed for up to ten years.
