The Retirement Freedom Act allows individuals to opt out of Medicare Part A benefits.
The Retirement Freedom Act permits individuals who are otherwise entitled to Medicare Part A benefits to choose to opt out of these benefits. This choice can be made in a form and manner specified by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. If an individual opts out, they can later choose to opt back in without penalty. Additionally, opting out of Medicare Part A does not require opting out of Social Security benefits, and there is no requirement to repay any Medicare Part A payments made for services before the opt-out election.
