The Next Generation Shipping Act directs the Department of Transportation to establish the Next Generation Shipping Innovation Program. This program supports research, design, development, demonstration, and deployment of zero-emission vessels and retrofitting existing vessels with zero-emission technologies. The Act also establishes the Next Generation Shipping Advisory Committee to advise on the program. The committee includes representatives from federal agencies, labor groups, the research community, environmental justice organizations, and other stakeholders.
