The Stop the Wait Act of 2025 amends titles II and XVIII of the Social Security Act to eliminate the waiting period for Social Security Disability Insurance benefits for individuals with disabilities. The bill phases down the waiting period for applications filed between 2025 and 2029, and fully eliminates it for applications filed on or after January 1, 2030. It also makes conforming amendments to related sections of the Social Security Act and the Railroad Retirement Act of 1974. The changes will take effect on January 1, 2030, and apply to applications filed on or after January 1, 2029.
