The DHS Release Transparency Act mandates the Secretary of Homeland Security to notify a designated point of contact before releasing a detained individual, except for those held less than 12 hours at a port of entry. The Secretary must attempt to notify the contact twice. The detained individual can choose a contact and provide their information at the time of custody. The Secretary must also provide translation and interpretation services. Information collected cannot be used for enforcement purposes.
