The DHS Release Transparency Act mandates the Secretary of Homeland Security to notify a designated point of contact upon the release of a detained individual, excluding those held for less than 12 hours at a port of entry. The Secretary must provide the option to designate a point of contact at the time of detention, along with translation and interpretation services. The Secretary must attempt to notify the designated contact at least twice. Information collected cannot be used for enforcement purposes.
